Rosiji plants seed of leadership, pledges more people-centered initiatives

It was a day of inspiration, celebration, and fulfillment in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area on Monday, October 27, 2025, as the Council hosted a dual event — the Showcase of the One-Day Chairman and One-Day Leader of the House alongside the Graduation Ceremony of the School of Vocational Studies.

The event, held at the Council Secretariat, was graced by dignitaries, teachers, parents, students, and community leaders who gathered to witness a symbolic display of leadership and empowerment championed by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji.

Earlier in the day, the Council Chairman formally received the One-Day Chairman, Master Taiwo Daniel of Ijaiye-Ojokoro High School, and the One-Day Leader of the House, Miss Biobaku Oluwaferami of Ebenezer Primary School, in her office. In a symbolic gesture of leadership transfer, Hon. Rosiji handed over her official green pen and file to the young “Chairman,” allowing him to experience the weight of responsibility that comes with public office.

The leadership simulation continued as the entourage moved to the Legislative Chamber, where the Councillors welcomed the young leaders. In another symbolic act, the Leader of the House vacated his seat for the One-Day Leader to preside over the sitting — a gesture that earned resounding applause from attendees.

The exercise climaxed at the main hall, where the One-Day Chairman presided over the graduation ceremony of 130 vocational trainees, marking the completion of months of training in diverse skill areas including fashion designing, hat and gele craft, shoemaking, catering, hairdressing, tie and dye, makeup artistry, confectioneries, computer training and phone repair engineering.

Delivering her address, Hon. Yemisi Rosiji  described the day as “a celebration of hope, purpose, and leadership renewal,” stressing that the One-Day Chairman and Leader experience was designed to groom future leaders who will serve with integrity, humility, and vision.

“Leadership is not about occupying a seat, but about service to others,” she said.

“Today’s exercise is more than a show, it is a seed of leadership we are planting in our children, and we pray that it grows into a forest of responsible and value-driven leaders.”

Hon. Rosiji commended teachers and vocational instructors for their commitment to youth empowerment and expressed pride in the 130 graduands who are now equipped to become self-reliant and economically independent.

She assured residents that her government would continue to focus on people-oriented projects that make life better for all, promising “more empowerment programs and more community-centered initiatives.”

In a special charge, the Council Chairman also urged youths aged 18 to 26 to take advantage of the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise, encouraging them to apply via https://recruitment.army.mil.ng as part of efforts to serve the nation.

The One-Day Chairman, Master Taiwo Daniel, in his speech, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman for her commitment to education and youth development. He appealed for the establishment of a modern library at Ijaiye-Ojokoro Senior High School to support learning, requested empowerment for his single mother, and sought support for his school’s Press Club.

“Your initiative to support pupils and promote education is truly commendable,” he said. “We look forward to a positive response and continued collaboration for the betterment of our schools and community.”

Earlier, the Council Manager, Mrs. Mojisola Akinola, in her opening remark, appreciated the Chairman for allowing the young leaders to experience governance firsthand, commending the teachers and instructors for their contributions to education and skills training.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Agege, Dr. Olufunke Idowu Oyefola, represented by Mrs. Ade Aladejare, conveyed her goodwill message, applauding the administration’s sustained investment in education and empowerment.

Also speaking, the Head of Education and Library Services, Mr. Tajudeen Quadri, while presenting the 130 graduands to the Council Chairman, commended Hon. Rosiji for her unwavering support for the education sector and vocational programs that promote self-reliance among youths.

The ceremony concluded on a joyous note with the presentation of Cash award of  #250,000 each to the One-Day Chairman and One-Day Leader as well as certificates to the graduands, as guests celebrated the dual success of leadership grooming and youth empowerment.
