The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has reaffirmed her administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public assets, declaring that public interest must always override private interest.
Acting on reports of encroachment on the premises of the kola Primary Health Centre (PHC), the Chairman on Monday, July 27, 2026, personally led an inspection to the site and directed the immediate fencing of the affected portion of the health facility to prevent further illegal occupation.
The intervention followed earlier reports that a massive vegetable oil storage tank had been installed beside the kola Primary Health Centre and directly in front of a building occupied by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Concerned about the potential safety risks posed by the size and location of the tank, the Chairman, alongside officials of the Works Department, had previously inspected the site and marked the structure for removal.
Despite the Council’s directive, the operators reportedly proceeded to fill the tank with vegetable oil and commenced commercial activities. Several follow-up visits and enforcement efforts were made by the Council, but the directives were ignored.
The situation escalated when reports reached the Chairman that the NSCDC office on the site had been demolished and that the vacated space had allegedly been allocated by the Iyaloja of Ikola Market to private individuals for commercial use.
Determined to protect the public facility from further encroachment, Hon. Rosiji immediately ordered the fencing of the land belonging to the Primary Health Centre.
In recognition of the importance of traditional institutions, the Executive Chairman paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Orile Alagbado, His Royal Majesty Oba Williams Adesoga Adeyoola, whose domain covers the market, to brief him on the Council’s action. The monarch expressed his support for the Chairman’s decision and commended her for placing the welfare of the people above individual interests.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Rosiji emphasized that no private business should be allowed to jeopardize the safety and effective operation of a public health facility.
“Public interest must always override private interest. No individual, in pursuit of personal gain, should put the lives of residents at risk or compromise the operations of a public health institution. The kola Primary Health Centre exists to serve the people, and this administration will continue to protect every public asset for the benefit of all.”
The Chairman reiterated that her administration remains committed to enforcing planning regulations, protecting public infrastructure, and ensuring that all government facilities across Ojokoro LCDA continue to serve their intended purpose without unlawful encroachment.
