Ojokoro Local Council Development Area has earned commendation for maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment following an environmental assessment visit by delegates from the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The assessment team, led by Mr. Akindele, conducted an extensive inspection across the LCDA, evaluating markets, refuse collection systems, pest control operations, and the general sanitary conditions of the area.
During a debrief session with the Council Chairman after the exercise, Mr. Akindele applauded the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, for her administration’s proactive environmental policies and the remarkable improvement in the council’s overall cleanliness and hygiene compared to the previous assessment.
However, he noted challenges with waste disposal at Ayemidun Market, Kola, attributing the issue to inefficiencies on the part of the PSP Operator responsible for that zone. He advised the Council to officially notify the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on the matter and copy the ministry for prompt intervention.
The team also observed that the surroundings of the meat section in some markets were not properly netted, a condition they advised should be urgently addressed to maintain hygiene standards.
In her response, Hon. Rosiji expressed appreciation to the ministry’s team for their visit and objective evaluation, assuring that her administration, through the Environmental Health Department, will continue to intensify efforts to sustain a clean, green, and healthy Ojokoro.
