In a move to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration and enhance community policing frameworks, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area hosted Assistant Commissioner of Police – Area G Commander, ACP Veronica Ahme Akpa who paid a courtesy visit to the Council. She was warmly welcomed by the Council Boss alongside Vice Chairman – Hon. Tunde Oyekunle, members of the Ojokoro Legislative Council and other council officials including Council Manager Mrs. Mojisola Akinola and Heads of Departments.
The meeting, held at the Council Secretariat Hall, focused on deepening collaboration between the Lagos State Police Command and Ojokoro LCDA, highlighting proactive security measures, inter-agency cooperation, and grassroots participation in policing efforts. ACP Akpa commended the remarkable transformation Ojokoro has achieved over the years, noting its progress from past challenges such as gang violence, armed robbery, and social unrest.
“I recall when this community faced significant insecurity issues, today, the progress is commendable, reflecting deliberate governance efforts,” ACP Akpa remarked. She emphasized the importance of shared intelligence, community involvement, and proactive security structures to ensure the safety of lives and property.
In her response, Hon. (Barr.) Rosiji Oluyemisi Adenike expressed gratitude to the ACP for the visit and commended the Lagos State Police Command for its enduring partnership. She highlighted emerging challenges in the locality, particularly the rising menace of substance abuse and illicit drug use among youths. _”Security is not just the absence of crime; it is the presence of systems that prevent it. We must collectively address drug-related issues and reintegrate our youths into productive dialogue,”_ the Chairman stated.
ACP Akpa, accompanied by Administrative Officer ASP Bolarinde, assured the council of sustained police collaboration and stressed the importance of vigilance and multi-stakeholder efforts in tackling security challenges.
The meeting concluded with a symbolic group photograph, representing the unity and shared commitment to governance, security, and community development in Ojokoro LCDA.
