On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, *Hon. (Barr.) Rosiji Oluyemisi*, convened a high-level meeting with stakeholders to address the pressing issue of low voter participation and to mobilize support for the ongoing *Permanent Voter Card (PVC)* registration exercise.
During the meeting, Hon. Rosiji expressed concern over the growing voter apathy observed in recent elections. She emphasized that this troubling trend must be reversed starting from within the council itself. “It is unacceptable for any public or civil servant to lack a voter’s card,” she said firmly. “Voting is not just a right; it is a civic duty.”
She further explained that online registration for PVCs has already begun, with physical registration to commence shortly. To ensure a smooth process for the people of Ojokoro, the Chairman directed the *ICT Department* to collaborate with INEC to explore the possibility of creating a *registration point within the council premises*. This, she said, would help reduce the burden on citizens who may otherwise have to go that far to the INEC office.
“We must make it easy for our people to register. Ojokoro people, regardless of political affiliation, should be able to access registration services right here,” she stated. She urged departmental heads to take responsibility for ensuring that every staff member under their supervision registers for and obtains their PVC regardless of their party affiliation.
In her address, she likened the PVC to essential national documents: “Your PVC is just as important as your National ID or International Passport. It is your identity as a citizen and a participant in governance.”
The Chairman called for total cooperation and urged the council’s leadership to take the message beyond the secretariat ,encouraging citizens across the LCDA to collect their PVCs and prepare to vote in future elections
