Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has celebrated academic excellence and rewarded outstanding young scholars at its Annual Spelling Bee Competition held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with contestants from primary and secondary schools across the council area demonstrating remarkable intelligence, confidence and vocabulary skills.

The Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Rosiji Oluyemisi Adenike, commended the contestants for their courage and determination, emphasising that the competition went beyond spelling words correctly to promote quality education, intellectual development and healthy competition among pupils and students.

Reaffirming her administration’s commitment to education, Hon. Rosiji described investment in the sector as essential to sustainable development. She disclosed that she had visited schools earlier in the day to distribute school bags and writing materials to pupils as part of efforts to support their learning and educational advancement.

The Chairman also praised teachers for their dedication to nurturing young minds and acknowledged parents’ vital role in their children’s academic development. She urged the contestants to remain calm, focused and confident, noting that the competition would help identify outstanding talents to represent Ojokoro LCDA at the state-level contest.

As part of her administration’s tradition of rewarding academic excellence, Hon. Rosiji announced that the overall winners in the primary and secondary school categories would have the opportunity to serve as One-Day Chairman and One-Day Leader of the Legislative Arm, respectively. Cash prizes would also be presented to the winners.

She encouraged all participants, including those who did not emerge victorious, to remain committed to learning, stressing that participation itself was an opportunity for growth and self-development. She subsequently declared the competition open.

Before the contest commenced, the Pronouncer, Mr. Popoola Ayodeji, addressed the contestants, explained the rules and guidelines, and encouraged them to remain attentive and composed throughout the exercise.

At the end of the keenly contested primary school category, Olajide Favour of New Okoba Primary School emerged winner. Akintade Semilore of Saviour Primary School, Moshalashi, placed second, while Olaleye Darasimi of Community Primary School, Bioyin, came third.
