The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of residents with the successful sponsorship of 1,000 residents into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (LASHMA).
The beneficiaries were enrolled during the Third Phase (Grand Finale) of the exercise held at the Council Secretariat, concluding the Council’s three-phase health insurance initiative aimed at expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare for residents across the LCDA.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Yemisi Rosiji Rosiji described the programme as another demonstration of her administration’s resolve to deliver people-oriented governance, noting that no resident should be denied access to quality healthcare because of financial constraints.
She disclosed that beneficiaries enrolled during the first and second phases have already begun enjoying the benefits of the scheme by accessing medical consultations, treatments, laboratory services and other healthcare interventions at accredited hospitals without making out-of-pocket payments. She therefore urged the newly enrolled beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by embracing regular medical check-ups and avoiding self-medication.
The Council Chairman also assured residents that her administration would continue to strengthen Primary Health Care Centres across Ojokoro and sustain partnerships that improve healthcare delivery and enhance the quality of life of the people.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Health, Hon. Tunde Oyekunle, commended the Executive Chairman for prioritising the welfare of residents through impactful healthcare initiatives. He encouraged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by accessing healthcare services whenever the need arises.
Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, Miss Tayo Adetoro applauded Hon. Rosiji for supporting the State Government’s drive towards universal health coverage. She commended the Council Chairman for sponsoring 1,000 vulnerable residents and over 400 ad-hoc staff of the LCDA into the health insurance scheme.
Participants were sensitised on the various health insurance packages, enrollment procedures, benefits of the scheme, and customer support channels. LASHMA also announced plans to establish an enrollment desk at the LCDA and other strategic locations within Ojokoro to make registration more accessible. Beneficiaries equally participated in an interactive question-and-answer session where officials provided clarifications on the operation of the scheme.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Council Manager, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, praised the Executive Chairman for her visionary leadership and sustained investment in the health sector, particularly the enrollment of over 400 temporary staff and 1,000 residents into the scheme. He also appreciated LASHMA and all stakeholders for their collaboration in making the programme a success.
The event was attended by Apex Leaders of the APC, members of the Legislative Arm, Executive Cabinet and Management Staff of the LCDA, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Community Development Committee (CDC), Community Development Associations (CDAs), market leaders, youth groups, women groups, and residents from across the seven wards of Ojokoro LCDA.
