Ojokoro Local Council Development Area was agog with joy, colours and celebration on Monday, December 29, as staff, political office holders and guests gathered to honour all retired officers for the year 2025 and celebrate outstanding employees at a well-attended ceremony.
The event, marked by music, dancing and heartfelt tributes, also featured the presentation of awards to two exceptional staff members who emerged as Best Staff of the Year in the Senior and Junior categories, as recognised by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission.
Delivering her goodwill message, the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, emphasized the importance of gratitude to God for the gift of life and successful service. She encouraged the retirees to remain optimistic about the future, stressing that opportunities abound at every stage of life.
The Chairman advised retirees to engage in productive ventures by acquiring short-term skills to remain active and financially independent, while cautioning them against investing in businesses they lack adequate knowledge of. She also warned against falling prey to fraudsters and financial scams.
Hon. Yemisi Rosiji further encouraged the retirees to remain relevant by participating in community service and political activities, describing such engagements as meaningful ways of giving back to society.
In recognition of their years of dedicated service, the Chairman presented cheques of ₦200,000 each to the retirees, while the Best Staff of the Year awardees in both Senior and Junior categories received ₦250,000 each as cash rewards.
Earlier in her remarks, the Council Manager, Mrs. Mojisola Akinola, commended the Executive Chairman for her magnanimity, particularly for increasing the retirees’ cash award from ₦150,000 to ₦200,000. She prayed for a fulfilling and successful retirement life for the honourees.
Similarly, in her welcome address, the Head of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Akran-Layode Elizabeth, who hosted the event, praised the Chairman’s consistent welfare-oriented leadership. She appreciated the increase in retirees’ appreciation and the cash rewards extended to the Best Staff of the Year, who had earlier been recognised by the Lagos State Government.
Mrs. Akran-Layode urged staff members to remain diligent and committed in their duties, noting that excellence, dedication and integrity are always observed and eventually rewarded.
The ceremony reached a delightful climax as the Council Chairman, her Vice Chairman, members of the Legislative Arm and management staff joined the retirees on the dance floor, celebrating together in an atmosphere filled with cheers, colourful attire and unrestrained jubilation.
