Ojokoro LCDA Chairman reaffirms Council’s partnership with traditional institution as monarch marks 23rd anniversary on the throne.
It was a spectacular celebration of royalty, culture, unity and community spirit in Ojokoro on Saturday as the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, Saturday, 8th August joined the Royal Family, traditional rulers, community leaders and distinguished guests to celebrate the 23rd Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Oluwalambe Taiwo, JP, Oba of Ojokoro Kingdom, alongside the vibrant Annual Odun Ajé Festival.
The colourful ceremony brought together an impressive gathering of traditional rulers, Baales, community leaders, political stakeholders, market leaders, youth representatives and sons and daughters of Ojokoro, transforming the occasion into a magnificent celebration of heritage, royalty and communal solidarity.
Amid the pomp and pageantry, the atmosphere reflected the significance of a monarch whose 23-year reign has remained closely associated with the history and development of Ojokoro.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Yemisi Rosiji warmly congratulated Kabiyesi on the remarkable milestone, describing his 23 years on the throne as “a testament to wisdom, service, peace, stability and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Ojokoro.”
She acknowledged the traditional institution as an indispensable partner in grassroots governance, noting that the role of traditional rulers extends beyond the preservation of culture to include peacebuilding, community mobilisation, conflict resolution and support for developmental initiatives.
According to her, the growing transformation being witnessed across Ojokoro LCDA is a product of collective efforts, stressing that government cannot achieve sustainable development in isolation.
She particularly commended Oba Taiwo for the consistent support, cooperation and collaboration extended to the administration of Ojokoro LCDA, noting that the cordial relationship between the Palace and the Council has continued to contribute positively to the peace, stability and development of the LCDA.
The Chairman said the Council would continue to value the wisdom and guidance of the traditional institution as it pursues its development agenda for the people.
Beyond the anniversary, the Odun Ajé Festival provided a colourful expression of Ojokoro’s rich cultural heritage.
Chairman Rosiji described the festival as more than an annual cultural gathering, noting that it serves as an important platform for preserving indigenous traditions, strengthening communal bonds and transmitting cherished cultural values from one generation to another.
She called on the people of Ojokoro to remain united across political, religious, ethnic and social lines, emphasising that the development of the community must remain a collective responsibility.
She also charged the younger generation to embrace the positive values embedded in their heritage while pursuing education, innovation, entrepreneurship and modern development, stressing that culture and development should complement rather than contradict each other.
One of the notable highlights of the celebration was the presentation of the official car of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Oluwalambe Taiwo, JP, by the Executive Chairman on behalf of the Lagos State Government.
The gesture further highlighted the recognition accorded the traditional institution and the importance attached to the role of traditional rulers in the governance, peace and development of communities across Lagos State.
The presentation was received with appreciation and added another memorable dimension to an already colourful celebration.
As Ojokoro celebrated its monarch in grand style, the occasion once again demonstrated the enduring relevance of the traditional institution and the strength that comes from a harmonious partnership between the Palace and the Government.
For Ojokoro, it was not merely a celebration of 23 years on the throne; it was a celebration of heritage preserved, unity strengthened and a community moving forward together.
