It was a moment that instantly changed the atmosphere.
The elegant Aurora Conference Centre in Osogbo, Osun State, was already buzzing with excitement as eminent personalities, captains of industry, traditional rulers, political heavyweights and distinguished members of Lions Clubs International gathered for the historic Investiture of the Pioneer District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 404B6 Nigeria.
Then came the announcement:
“Please rise to receive our Special Guest of Honour…”
As Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), made her grand entrance into the hall, the atmosphere transformed. A thunderous ovation erupted, cameras flashed from every direction, while music filled the air as guests rose in admiration.
It was more than a ceremonial welcome—it was The Rosiji Effect.
The Executive Chairman, who attended the event as the Special Guest of Honour and one of the distinguished award recipients, acknowledged the warm reception with her trademark smile and graceful composure before taking her seat among other eminent dignitaries.
If her arrival generated excitement, her moment on the podium became one of the defining highlights of the ceremony.
As the Master of Ceremony invited her to address the gathering, the music artists struck another lively tune. Members of her entourage joyfully escorted her to the stage amid singing, dancing and resounding applause. The excitement in the hall was simply contagious. Even as she repeatedly appealed to the audience to settle down, the celebration continued, with many determined to savour the moment before allowing her to speak.
When calm eventually returned, Hon. Rosiji delivered a brief but impactful address that resonated deeply with the audience.
Speaking from experience rather than mere protocol, she paid glowing tribute to Lions Clubs International for its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service across the world, describing its motto, “We Serve,” as a philosophy that has consistently translated into practical acts of compassion and transformed countless lives.
She reminded the gathering that Ojokoro LCDA is a proud beneficiary of the club’s humanitarian interventions, particularly through the donation of medical equipment to the Council’s Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as medical and eye-care outreach programmes that have significantly improved healthcare delivery for residents.
According to her, the enduring partnership between Ojokoro LCDA and the Lions Club is a shining example of how collaboration between government and humanitarian organisations can accelerate community development and improve the quality of life of the people.
Turning to the proposed Lions House and Food Bank Project, the Chairman described the initiative as timely and visionary, especially at a period when many vulnerable families are facing economic hardship. She commended the Pioneer District Governor, Lion Oluomo Sunday Akintunde Akere, PMJF, NLCF, for the initiative and assured the gathering of Ojokoro LCDA’s continued support for programmes that promote humanity, compassion and community development.
Moments later came another high point of the colourful ceremony.
In recognition of her outstanding commitment to public service and humanitarian leadership, Hon. Rosiji was presented with the prestigious Excellent Leadership Award by the Pioneer District Governor, Lion Oluomo Sunday Akintunde Akere, in the company of other senior Lions officials.
The award citation reads:
