Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is set to commence the construction of the long-awaited Temple Road, Jankara – Gbirinmi, following a stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting convened by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Rosiji Oluyemisi Adenike to prepare residents and other stakeholders for the commencement of the project.

The proposed construction, which is expected to significantly improve accessibility, ease transportation and stimulate economic activities within the community, will cover approximately 1,370 metres in length and eight metres in width, with seven adjoining streets also incorporated into the development plan.

The sensitisation meeting, held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the CDC Hall, Temple Road, brought together community leaders, residents, political stakeholders, service providers and other relevant interests to familiarise them with the project scope and solicit their cooperation for its successful execution.

PROJECT EXPANDED TO 1,370 METRES, SEVEN STREETS TO BENEFIT

Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Rosiji described the project as another significant milestone in her administration’s grassroots infrastructure development drive, noting that good roads remain essential to community development, economic growth and improved living conditions.

She disclosed that the Council had formally opened bids for the construction of two roads on October 12, 2026, with Temple Road being the first of the projects to progress towards implementation.

The Chairman particularly highlighted the strategic importance of Temple Road, which connects several streets and communities, assuring that its construction would address longstanding accessibility challenges and bring considerable relief to residents and commuters.

In a significant expansion of the project, the Council Engineer, Engr. Ganiu Ope, disclosed that although the initial newspaper advertisement specified a road length of 1,000 metres, the Executive Chairman had facilitated its extension to 1,370 metres in consideration of the road’s length and the longstanding need for its construction.

He explained that the project would also accommodate seven adjoining streets: Tayo Makinde Street, Oliyide Street, Abanikanda Street, Cole Street, Adigun Street, Church Street and Ipetu-Ijesha Street, with provisions for solar-powered streetlights.

Providing further technical details, Engr. Ope stated that the road would have a width of eight metres and a total right of way of 11.4 metres. He added that the existing drainage on the right-hand side, measuring 1.2 metres by one metre, would be maintained, while a one-metre by one-metre drainage channel would be provided on the left-hand side.

He further explained that the adjoining streets would receive 10-metre drainage extensions, except Oliyide Street, where the extension would cover 50 metres due to the volume of water flowing through the area.

HON. ROSIJI ASSURES ON DRAINAGE, ADJOINING ROADS, SEEKS RESIDENTS’ COOPERATION

Responding to concerns raised by residents on solar lighting and flooding, Hon. Rosiji assured that the LCDA would look into appropriate measures to improve the free flow of water and address drainage challenges within the affected areas. She also disclosed that adjoining roads would receive attention to some extent.

The Chairman urged residents to cooperate fully with the contractor, engineers and other project personnel, particularly by providing the necessary right of way and removing obstructions that could hinder construction activities.

She acknowledged that construction might bring temporary inconveniences but appealed to the people to look beyond the immediate challenges and embrace the long-term benefits of improved road infrastructure.

The Council Engineer also appealed to utility service providers, landlords and residents whose properties or structures might fall within the project’s right of way to cooperate with the engineering team, assuring that the contractor and supervising engineers would ensure that the work was properly executed according to specifications.

The Council Chairman also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his Renewed Hope Agenda and Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his THEMES+ development agenda, acknowledging their commitment to infrastructure development, economic transformation and improved living conditions.

Earlier, the Supervisor for Works, Mr Olaide Lanre, welcomed stakeholders and congratulated the residents on the emergence of the project during the tenure of the incumbent Council Chairman.

He expressed optimism that the construction would open up the communities along the road corridor, enhance accessibility and boost economic activities, urging residents to give maximum cooperation to the government and the contractor for successful project delivery.

HON. OLABINJO RECALLS YEARS OF EFFORTS TO SECURE ROAD CONSTRUCTION

The Member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo, who was visibly delighted by the development, described himself as the happiest person over the proposed construction.

The former two-term Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA recalled his efforts during his tenure to secure the construction of Temple Road, explaining that he had presented the road’s condition to the then Governor of the state but was advised to consider other roads which he did that has also brought development to the LCDA, because of the high-tension electricity infrastructure along the corridor.

He expressed satisfaction that the road was finally receiving the attention it deserved, commending Rosiji for prioritising a project he described as long overdue and one that would significantly alleviate the hardship of residents.

However, he cautioned that the construction might require some demolition within the road’s right of way, urging affected residents to cooperate with the authorities and prepare for the necessary adjustments.

Also speaking, former Member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency, Hon. James Adisa, expressed support for the developmental initiatives of the Rosiji-led administration, urging residents to sustain their participation in the democratic process ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The CDC Chairman, Barr. Olu Alabi, represented by the First Vice Chairman, Alhaji Adeyemi, expressed appreciation to the Council Chairman for the project, particularly noting that Temple Road passes through the CDC Hall and its construction would directly benefit the community.

He described Rosiji as the first female Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA and commended her administration’s development efforts. He also encouraged eligible residents to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards, disclosing that available data indicated a low per cent PVC collection rate in the area.

Similarly, an apex leader of the party, Hon. James Osatuyi, described Temple Road as one of the roads whose condition had negatively affected the image of Ojokoro, expressing optimism that its construction would bring significant relief to residents.

In his remarks, the Councillor representing Ward D, Hon.
